The Gulf Coast Classic has been a part of Mobile's heritage for the past 35 years. However, last year marked a new beginning for the Classic. With long-term commitments from both universities, the Classic will feature Alabama State and Southern University for the next several years.

The new "change" was brought about to bring stability and consistency to one of the premier HBCU college football contests in the country.
